Jibestream hosts a Ladies Learning Code workshop

Jibestream hosted their very first Ladies Learning Code
workshop a couple weeks ago and it was a great success!

"At Ladies Learning Code we really want to encourage people to become creators of technology, not just consumers"

- LLC Staff/Yaa

Ladies Learning Code (LLC) is a not-for-profit organization which originated here in Toronto in 2011. They now run coding workshops and camps in 20+ cities all over Canada and have had 25,000 people (and counting) attendees in total!

We decided that LLC was an initiative we wanted to support because it aligns really well with the mission of our interest group, women.js. This is a group where passionate Jibestream members from Customer Success, to R&D, to Marketing, come together to share ideas on how we can educate on the topic of and inspire gender equality within the company and in the tech community.

At the workshop, we chose to host a Beginner HTML and CSS course. Jibestream was lucky enough to have
seven (Xerxes N., Phiroze N., Louise L., Raf H., Art L., Peter B., Matt B.,) of our awesome Developers and Product Managers volunteer as mentors. We’re so glad they got to be involved and could help eager learners create their very first website. One of the learners shared her experience with coding and the workshop:

“Up until now, I was too afraid to touch code because there was too much at stake. But after participating in a workshop held by women.js and Ladies Learning Code, I have a better understanding and a much greater appreciation for what developers do."

“I really enjoyed being a part of Ladies Learning Code; being able to assist these new developers as they’re introduced to a world I’m so passionate about was fantastic and I look forward to mentoring more groups of Ladies Learning Code in the future.”

- Art L., SDK Developer at Jibestream & LLC Mentor

We were very excited to host a LLC workshop and to support an organization whose purpose would make a positive impact in today’s tech organizations and a lasting change for young girls who want to enter and succeed in tech. women.js started out strong by partnering up with LLC and we look forward to connecting with more organizations in pursuit of gender equality in tech.
